Good news is always a welcome sight
Wow. Sometimes even a neutered dog can bear its fangs. The House voted successfully today to hold Karl Rove in contempt, for which he could serve up to a year of jail time. He'll fight it on appeal, of course, but this is still a major step towards trying to hold SOMEONE in the Bush Admin. responsible for the illegal expansion of Presidential powers over the last 8 years. This, on the heels of the SC decision to reinstate Habeas Corpus, is giving me some hope that we might yet emerge from this mess with an intact Democracy again.

In regards to an intact PLANET, I'm urging all Massachusetts residents to click here for some more easy activism in asking House Speaker DeMasi to sign on to pass the state's Global Warming Solutions Act, which the State Senate already approved but the House is on the fence. The deadline is tomorrow so please act now.

This is pretty much the end of it. Rove won't see a day of jail time, I predict. In the end, all of the shenanigans that Bush and more importantly, the people that surrounded him will go roughly unpunished. The line of corruption goes too far back at this point. Unless the Dems are ready to send someone out to clap the man in irons and drag him back and hold his ass physically, they really need to be spending their time on more pressing concerns. Which brings me to:

Rep. Lamar Smith of Texas, the committee's top Republican, accused Democrats of "conducting witch hunts." Instead, he said, "We should consider bipartisan legislation to reduce the price of gas, reduce crime and secure the borders."

Golly Mr. Smith, imagine all the good things that could have been done ten years ago, when you were instead busy nailing Clinton for lying about a blow job after those Whitewater investigations failed to produce anything cromulent. Not that the good Senator doesn't normally have an excellent point, it just seems to fall a little flat, especially given that the investigations have confirmed that the DoJ was illegally politicized over the past few years. Maybe if they spent more time executing their sworn duty to uphold the Constitution, and less time engaging in cronyism...

Grrrr. Just like Doctor Horrible said "The world is screwed up and I....I just need to rule it."

Oh! You totally need to see that when you come to visit on Saturday!

Part of me really does think that no one will ever get even a wrist-slap for all the crimes they committed in this administration, BUT, the fact that history will show that there were people who TRIED...who stood up to injustice...even in itself, that's huge.

We always look to Nazi Germany and keep asking why no one ever stood up...I'd like to hope when historians look at the US they won't say that...

(and yes, I know there was an attempt on Hitler's life that failed, but they were just going to replace him with some slightly saner tyrant)
